Ennis Lions Varsity fought back after falling down by five runs in the fourth inning.
The comeback fell just short though, in a 5-3 defeat to Midlothian on Tuesday. Ennis Lions Varsity scored three runs in the failed comeback on a single by Cameron Skrivanek in the fourth and a groundout by Jarron Honza in fifth.
Midlothian scored three runs in the third inning. Midlothian’s big inning was driven by doubles by Ryan McCaskill and Anthony Ferrante and by Josh Oliver.
Caden Hawkins led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Midlothian. He surrendered three runs on seven hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out ten.
Andrew Zmolik led things off on the mound for Ennis Lions Varsity. He lasted four innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out one and walking zero. Chris Gonzales threw three innings out of the bullpen.
Ennis Lions Varsity saw the ball well today, racking up eight hits in the game. Kade Bragg, Skrivanek, and Ryan Casas all managed multiple hits for Ennis Lions Varsity. Casas, Skrivanek, and Bragg each collected two hits to lead Ennis Lions Varsity.
Ennis Lions Varsity stole eight bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Bragg led the way with two.
Josh Tankersley led Midlothian with two hits in four at bats.
